Spendbrook: Expenses, accounts and a monthly budget

Spendbrook is a simple expense tracker you fill in by hand. Log what you spend and receive in a few taps, keep cash, card and bank accounts side by side, set a monthly budget and read clear reports, all on your phone. No account and no bank connection. Your entries stay on your phone.

Log in a few taps

• Add an expense or income with an amount, category, account, date and an optional note
• Add another entry like an earlier one with one tap
• Move money between your own accounts; a transfer is not counted as income or spending
• Search by note, category or account, and filter by account, category, month or amount

Accounts and currencies

• Cash, card and bank accounts that you name yourself, each with its own currency and opening balance
• Accounts in other currencies are converted into your main currency with reference exchange rates; you can change the rate by hand
• Starter categories you can rename, recolour, hide or merge, with your own categories alongside

Budget

• Set a monthly total, or a limit for a category, and see on the home screen how much is left
• An optional notification when an entry takes a limit over, with no amount in the text

Reports

• See where your money goes: this month by category and by day, income and spending, and a list month by month

Keep your data

• Back up your data to one file and restore it from the file, also on another phone
• Export your entries as a CSV file, and delete all your data from the app whenever you like

Pro, if you want it

• Recurring entries for rent, salary and subscriptions, made when you open the app
• Advanced reports: any period, trends over 12 months and over the years, drill-down by account or category, averages
• Import a bank or spreadsheet CSV file, with a preview before anything is added
• Receipt photos on your entries, from the camera or your photos
• App lock with Face ID, fingerprint or passcode
• Colour themes
• Pro turns the ads off.

Spendbrook Pro is optional. Entries, transfers and search, accounts, categories, the monthly budget with its notification, this month's reports, backup and restore, and CSV export are free. The free version shows ads: a small banner on your transactions and reports and, now and then, an ad after you close a report. The screen where you add an entry, Settings, the Pro screen and the lock screen stay free of ads, and you can choose to watch a short ad to open a locked Pro report for 24 hours. Choose monthly, yearly (with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers) or a one-time lifetime purchase. There is no weekly plan. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and vary by region.

Your entries stay yours

• No account and no bank connection. Your entries stay on your phone
• Updating exchange rates needs a connection; entries, accounts, budgets and reports work offline
• Usage statistics and crash reports help us improve the app. Where the law requires it the app asks first; you can change this in Settings. They hold no amounts, account names, categories or notes
